Biography

Quickly becoming a young talent to watch, Nicole Vogel has been described as "that rare combination of fine musicianship, expressive voice and exceptional acting ability that make her shine on stage." Ms. Vogel won the 2010 Colorado/Wyoming District Metropolitan National Opera Auditions and was named a finalist in the 2010 Rocky Mountain Regional Metropolitan National Opera Auditions. Most recently she was named a winner in the Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition and the Ekstrand Competition at the University of Colorado at Boulder. In 2008, she was nominated for a Camera’s Eye Award as BEST ACTRESS in musical for her performance as Desiree Armfeldt in A Little Night Music.

In 2009, she garnered high praise for her biting comedic portrayal of Florence Pike in Britten’s Albert Herring. During the 2004-2005 season, Ms. Vogel was a resident artist at Opera Carolina in Charlotte, NC. She has since sung roles with Opera Carolina, Greensboro Opera, Long Leaf Opera, The Martina Arroyo Foundation, UNCG Opera Theatre, Colorado Light Opera and the University of Colorado. Stand-out roles include Jo March in Little Women, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte, and the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors.

Ms. Vogel earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and Music Education from Ithaca College and her Master of Music in Vocal Performance from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is currently working on a degree in voice performance and pedagogy at the University of Colorado at Boulder as a student of Patti Peterson.

Upcoming engagements include Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro with the Muses Opera Company, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Julia Gibbs in Ned Rorem’s Our Town and the University of Colorado. Concert engagements include alto soloist in The Messiah with the University of Colorado at Boulder, a concert of American song and alto soloist in Bach’s St. John’s Passion with Augustana Arts Presents. This summer Ms. Vogel will be an artist in the CU New Opera Workshop where she will collaborate with major American composers on new operas.
